The Goulburn High School Chess Club sent a contingent of players to participate in the Interschool Chess Challenge 2024 run by the Sydney Academy of Chess.
The local heat was hosted by Trinity Catholic College.
Our team comprised of Ashwin, Anmol, Max, Charlie and Marco.
Each student competed individually against players from other schools.
The scores from the best 4 players contributed to a team score for the school.
Anmol received a 3rd place individual medal and Goulburn High School received a 3rd place medal.
Students also participated in a simultaneous chess exhibition put on by Neal who ran the event.
He played timed games against 7 students simultaneously. The time control was 12 minutes. Unfortunately, none of the students managed to defeat Neal.
The closest was Anmol who nearly flagged Neal, but was checkmated with 3 seconds on the clock.
